DISTINCTIVES
Rooted In Scripture
At Bethel we
root ourselves in the pages of the Bible, and believe that
these stories of God’s life with humankind shape and form us
as believers and a community of faith.
Disciple Making
Bethel
takes seriously the charge of Christ to make disciples.
We want to see people thrive in their relationship with
Jesus Christ, and seek to empower believers to know
and live out their own unique, Christian calling.
Gender Inclusive
Men and
women work cooperatively in the cause of Christ at Bethel
Church. We believe that God calls and equips all people
for service, and that gender has no bearing on one’s
ability to do Christ’s work.
Christ Centered
Jesus Christ
is the center of our faith. The life, death and resurrection
of Christ teach us God’s way in the world. In the life of
Jesus, God models human life as God intended us to live
it.
Soul Freedom
We believe
that accepting or rejecting Jesus is a decision that each
person must make for themselves. We believe that a healthy
relationship with Jesus enhances our lives, and at Bethel
developing a healthy relationship with God and others is at
the heart of what we do.
Religious Freedom
Baptists
have believed and taught that the state must not dictate to
the church, nor the church to the state. We believe
strongly that Christians should both run for office, and
pray for their leaders in government. We believe that every
person is responsible to God for his or her own religious
beliefs and practice. We do not presume to dictate to any
individual or church the way in which they worship.
Bible Freedom
Bethel
Church believes that each person has the right and
obligation to understand God’s word. We do not worship the
Bible, but we believe the Bible reveals both God and
humankind. We believe scripture has authority in the lives
of God’s people and we consider it a sacred book.
Church Freedom
Bethel
Church is self governing, choosing it’s own leadership and
managing it’s own affairs and inner life. It is free to
develop as led by the Spirit of God and the Scriptures. We
see ourselves as part of the larger Body of Christ which includes
Christians everywhere.
